We want our I-Phones to give excellent performance with high data speeds, better video and gaming, along with other applications like WhatsApp, Facebook, etc. and at the same time we want our I-phones to be powered ON the whole day. To run all the applications and the battery not being drained before evening is indeed a herculean task. Thus, 56% I-Phone users want bigger battery.

Now, lets contemplate the history of I-Phones wherein Apple Inc have aspired to keep us, the users, happy. The table-1 below illustrates the battery specifications along with the screen size of I-phones from 3G to 6S Plus.

Sl No I Phones Battery (mAh) Display size (inches)
1 3G 1220 3.5
2 3GS 1220 3.5
3 4 1420 3.5
4 4S 1432 3.5
5 5 1440 4
6 5C 1510 4
7 5S 1560 4
8 6 1810 4.7
9 6S 1715 4.7
10 6S PLUS 2915 5.5

As observed in Table-1, with time Apple Inc have always increased the battery specifications trying to satisfy the I-Phone users. The only disadvantage of having a bigger battery is that our I-Phones tend to be more bulkier compared to previous versions. As is evident from the Table 1, the display sizes or screen sizes have been increased to compensate for the bulky batteries.

Charging these batteries is of concern now a days because of the possibilities of wear and tear on the socket of the device due to the frequent plugging and unplugging of the charger. If our I-Phone compatible charger is not available then the battery just drains out causing a serious concern when at workplace or leisure, etc.

To overcome the above mentioned drawbacks, 54% I-Phone users prefer Wireless Charging. Wireless Charging, based on the principle of inductive power transfer or magnetic resonance, charges the I-Phone by just placing it over the wireless charging pad or surface. Many mobile devices in the global market support Qi (pronounced “chee”) wireless charging. Qi is an interface standard developed by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) for inductive electrical power transfer. Wireless chargers eliminates the need of charging cables thereby offering a lot of convenience to the I-Phone user.

With Samsung and IKEA, a Swedish furniture company, stepping into the world of wireless power with the launch of wireless charging pad and integrating wireless chargers into the furniture respectively, the awareness of wireless power has increased manifold. According to a recent consumer survey conducted by IHS Inc. (NYSE: IHS), the leading global source of critical information and insight, consumer awareness of wireless charging technology has doubled, reaching 76 percent of consumers in the United States, United Kingdom and China in the last 12 months. The Qi currently has more than 200 member companies including brand name companies like Microsoft, Samsung, Sony, Verizon Wireless, etc.

Due to the metallic cladding around the I-Phones, inductive coupling cannot take place thereby causing a challenge for wireless charging. However, we have Qi compatible add-ons or sleeves which when integrated with the I-Phones, wireless charging is enabled. Thus I-Phones can be charged wirelessly.

PowerSquare, an innovative Power Electronics start-up, has developed a Wireless Charging Pad branded as TANGO that can handle up to 10 watts of power to charge two I-Phones wirelessly at the same time. TANGO is the world’s first position-free multi device wireless charging pad that uses the Adaptive Position Free technology (patent pending) to enable seamless charging of multiple devices wirelessly.

PowerSquare has developed I-Phone 6 sleeves alongwith TANGO thereby enabling two I-Phone 6/6S to be charged wirelessly at the same time. You can grab your TANGO at: http://www.powersquare.com/shop
